There is nothing like flagrant hypocrisy to kill a positive message and public figures and politicians have turned it into an art form.
Whether it is right wingers preaching against gay marriage and then coming out of the closet or bathroom stall or left wing environmental nuts living in homes that use the power of a small city and fly on private jets, the do as I say not as I do crowd do more damage than good for their causes.
But there are few as entertaining as the Reverend Jesse Jackson getting his gas guzzling Cadillac Escalade jacked and stripped of its tires while in Detroit last week while promoting government funded green jobs with UAW president Bob King at the jobs, justice and Peace march last week in Detroit.
Now I have worked the good Reverend and I understand why he hasn't purchased a Prius. He is about 6'5" and would look like Dino from the Flintstones riding around in it. That being said, there are other large more efficient vehicles he could purchase but that's not really why I am calling him out.
It is because if he is really interested in helping create urban jobs then he will stop wasting the black community's time with these so called green jobs. The loss of jobs in Detroit is more a result of failed democrat policies, poorly run schools and the unions driving the state's manufacturing base into bankruptcy.
The latest result of government environmental ideologues and their union thugs setting up GM for another fall is the $40,000 Chevrolet Volt. Even with a $7,500 tax credit which in my opinion is a flagrant manipulation of the competitive car market, nobody really knows if consumers will spend the extra money when they can buy a Prius with the superior reliability that Toyota is known for.
Jobs are created by demand and even he isn't demanding green products. Besides, the only green jobs that pay in Detroit are on the street corner and they aren't helping to keep anybody's hope alive.

In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Bret Stephen referred to the mentality of people who put reality aside in the name of feeling better about their point of view even if it doesn't fix a damn thing as "moral narcissism." He was using it in the context of foreign policy and how liberals think that they are superior because they cast no judgments towards those who commit evil unless of course they are conservative.
We see this sort of surface hypocrisy often in Los Angeles with the rich who live in homes that use the energy of a small city but drive a Toyota Prius because they want to whole world to know that they are environmentally conscious.
What they fail to realize is that they are as obvious as the morbidly obese person trying to convince us that they really want to be healthy as they drink a diet Coke with cheeseburger.
What is even more amusing is that the EPA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn't even give these eco friendly lefties the kudos they so desperately desire. Under a mandate from the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, all vehicles will be rated based on fuel economy, greenhouse gases and smog-forming pollutants and given a letter grade.
Even the Toyota Prius can't muster a top grade with these environmental tyrants and under the new system it gets an A-. If your desire is to demonstrate how much you really care then you are going to have to trade in the polluting Prius for a "zero emission" electric car.
I don't know what they hope to accomplish with this new grading system. I doubt there are many people who purchase their cars strictly on the basis of its environmental impact. Even if you do buy an eco-friendly vehicle, what about the carbon emissions from the manufacturing of the car or the pollutants which come from disposal of all those hybrid batteries? Then there is the production of the energy to charge the damn things and on and on it goes.
If you are purchasing these electric breadboxes for a reason other than saving money on gas then you are severely over estimating your impact on the world's environment. If you really want to make a difference then you will get on a plane and protest the industrialization in China and India as they are much more cavalier in their polluting practices.
Or you could just stay here drinking your Starbucks and driving into that big garage in your big house convinced that somehow you are morally superior to that guy who drives a pickup truck and always makes sure to turn off the lights when he leaves a room in his modest two bedroom house.

One of the more amusing accusations I hear in regards to Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally in Washington this past weekend was that he gave no specifics as to how he would change America. Considering that President Obama turned vague platitudes into an art form during the 2008 election it seems absurd to hold a talk show host to a higher standard than those who actually have the power.
The media spent it's time trying to discredit the number of people and focused on their skin color as opposed the obvious message, Americans are not happy with the direction that their government is heading in. This rally was not about condemning Obama but it was painted that way by a mass media culture blinded by their love of President Obama.
Whether you are left, right, Republican or Democrat, the unemployment rate is the same, the Health Care law will raise costs, the housing market is in the dumps and the deficit and national debt is out of control. An end to the Bush years did not reign in a new era of hope and change; rather it brought to power a reckless group of socialist minded ideologues who have no idea how to build an economy. Then today the CBO released a report that showed that the Iraq war actually cost less than the non-stimulating stimulus plan.
Through health care reform, environmental taxes, vilifying the wealthy and creating more government jobs, Washington D.C. has lost touch with the electorate. The public no longer believe what politicians in both parties say. The success of the Tea Party has nothing to do with hating a black man in the White House; it is an act of desperation from people who feel that career politicians have stopped representing the interest of the people.
Then there is the topic of race and what would any racial argument be without Al Sharpton trying to capitalize. Al Sharpton said in an opposing rally that "this is our day and we ain't givin' it away." Though Beck has admitted that he does not agree with all of Martin Luther King's positions on the redistribution of wealth, guaranteed jobs and so called "social justice", he focused on the things that we all should be able to agree on, "a fair shot" for everyone.
There are many who believe that the Ground Zero Mosque should go forward simply because it is a Constitutional right but bristle at the idea of Glenn Beck's right to hold a rally on the same day as Martin Luther King. After listening to Beck's speech, it seems that he was far less antagonistic and much more willing to show sensitivity towards the civil rights movement than the backers of the Mosque are showing towards the families of the victims of 9-11.
At the end of the day this rally was a big disappointment to those who were looking to label the crowd racists and hate mongers. With nearly a half million in attendance there were no reports of violence or racism. Many in the crowd might not be able to eloquently articulate why they are unhappy with the government but they are smart enough to know they are being lied to.
President Obama reached out a hand to Iran and was laughed at, North Korea hasn't budged an inch, Afghanistan needed more troops than the President authorized and the threat of increased health care costs, expiring Bush tax cuts and multiple bailouts have caused the economy to constrict. It isn't that the Republicans were any more competent, it's just that the Democrats promised change for the better and we have ended up changed for the worse.

According to a new study presented at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association by Carlos Santos, a professor at Arizona State University, the hyper masculine behavior demonstrated by some young men is a result of cultural trends and not biology. He also concluded that being a "mama's boy" might be good for the mental health of young men.
Using a mental-health measure called the Children's Depression Inventory, he also found that boys who shunned masculine stereotypes and remained more emotionally available had, on average, better rates of mental health through middle school.
Their argument is that research has shown that stereotypically masculine traits such as autonomy and toughness can make men less likely to seek medical help when it's needed. At the same time, close emotional connections and relationships can provide a sense of safety and emotional security that can reduce stress and foster good health.
Notice the language in their analysis, "can make", "less likely", "can reduce" and so on. They don't know for sure and they don't study the effects of being a dependent fearful boy who can't handle the cold harsh reality of the real world.
You need not look further than the "Twixter" craze that has infected many thirty-something "adults". More and more we have men staying dependent on their parents when they should be learning how to make it in the world. The new health care reform allows grown men to stay on mommy and daddy's health plan until age 26 and polls have suggested that more and more people in our society want the government to take care those who should be taking care of themselves.
We wonder why so many American's get buried in debt, can't handle stress and snap when times get tough and yet we spend all our time trying to destroy masculinity when it is that very thing which is necessary to fight off evil and handle tough times. Crawling up underneath your mom's dress does not prepare you for the real world which is cruel and often unfair.
Then their is the claim by Sharon Lamb, professor of mental health at the University of Massachusetts that superheroes are to blame for hyper masculine traits in young boys. So what are we to do, have these kids watch Lifetime movies or better yet, America's Top Model? Superheroes do much more than teach boys how to fix problems with violence.
Superheroes teach many life lessons which are positive such as justice, fairness, defending the weak or innocent and using force when all other measures have failed. To suggest that they are a bad influence because they don't operate like the United Nations is not only ignorant of human nature; it is ignorant of world history.
Masculinity is necessary especially among good men. It is the great equalizer that brings strength, stability and justice to a world that is in decline. Instead of tearing down the biological tendencies of men, social psychologists should be focused on promoting the healthy exercise of the normal and unique behaviors of both sexes.

It used to be laughable to hear Republicans accuse Democrats of spending too much money even if you don't count at least one of the wars that we could have done without. That being said, House Democrats at the behest of President Obama have spent unprecedented amounts of money in the name of saving jobs yet we still have double digit unemployment.
The latest ploy came in the form of a 10 Billion dollar bailout for teachers that turned into a 26 Billion dollar bill because another 16 Billion was needed to increase Medicare funding to the states by 2.2%. Lawmakers claimed that doctors were starting to refuse to new Medicare patients because of the cuts.
The Medicare cuts were required under a 1990s budget cutting law that Congress has routinely waived. The latest extension expired May 31 after concerns about adding to the budget deficit held up a larger bill that also included unemployment benefits.
The bottom line here is that supposedly paying for spending now by promising to cut later doesn't work as demonstrated in the paragraph above. Even Nancy Pelosi doesn't want to cut food stamps in 2014 and lawmakers want to revisit later. That means that this 26 Billion will most likely end up adding to the budget which the not what the President promised.
It is also obvious by this article in USA Today that the state layoffs were going to happen anyway and the argument for saving the jobs of Police and Firefighters was in the very least disingenuous. I suspect though, the pension funds for state employees and their unions will magically get filled.
